Our Team

colm-croppedColm Massey

Colm is a father of two, a digital tool maker and animation industry veteran, with a long term interest in alternative economics. He has been a social justice activist for most of his adult life, with a particular interest in migrant justice and Middle East solidarity. He co-founded ISE in Oxford in 2014. He now volunteers three days a week for ISE as well as serving on the board of Trustees. He has worked on all aspects of ISE’s activity, but now focuses on research and education.

dan-croppedDan Whiteley

Dan is a social justice activist who has mostly campaigned on climate issues, with a background in physics and web development. He’s worked as a secondary school physics teacher, and with local food co-ops Cultivate and The People’s Supermarket. He is also currently working on a local commoning project which aims to give people democratic control over shared resources. His role at ISE currently focuses on a linked open data project, supporting social initiatives to access new web technologies.

Kat Darling

The most recent addition to the team, Kat joined ISE as Communications Manager in January 2017. Her PR experience spans the broadcast, charity, higher education and public sectors, having held positions at organisations like rural community co-ops charity Plunkett Foundation, Oxfordshire County Council, and the BBC. She moved to Oxford from West Yorkshire in 2010, and in her spare time likes generally being outdoors (running, walking, cycling…), buying second-hand books and travelling.

Clara is a Brazilian with a background in Oceanography and a passion for climate change. She moved to the UK over three years ago to study a Masters in Economics for Transition at Schumacher College, Devon. After finishing her studies, she found herself in Oxford and got involved Climate Outreach, before joining the ISE in May 2015. Her roles within the organisation involve Coordination and HR, and she’s currently leading on Networking and Collaboration projects. In her spare time, she likes to kick some ass at Muay Thai, learn new languages and go on hikes (she would prefer to climb, but Oxfordshire is a bit flat).

matt-croppedMatt Wallis

Matt is leading the Linked Open Data project, and also serves in the roles of Internal Coordinator and of oiling the wheels of technology and infrastructure for the organization. His academic background is in Mathematics and Computer Science, with degrees from UCL and Oxford University. As a professional software developer for over 30 years, he has worked for companies large and small, in a range of senior positions. During summer holidays, he likes to go on long bike rides in continental Europe.
